EVENT DETAILS:

Start, finish & meeting point; Grange over Sands Railway station

Distance; 8km, 5 miles

Duration; Up to 3 hours

Difficulty level; 2 out of 5

Start time; 9am

We meet at Grange over Sands Railway station where there is also nearby car parking available. We pass through a beautiful deciduous wooded area called Eggerslack Wood before heading to the top of Hampsfell to be rewarded with abulous views over Morecambe Bay. The view don’t stop there! To the north you get amazing views of the main Lakeland fells from the same place. The route does a loop of the northern end of Hampsfell and we can admire the extensive limestone pavements covering the area. We then head down to the Hospice Tower, the familiar landmark overlooking Grange, before going back to the village. At the end of the walk there is the option of visiting the nearby Hazelmere Cafe for a well earned coffee and cake!

KIT REQUIREMENTS

  • Suitable footwear, eg walking shoes or boots
  • Waterproof jacket and over-trousers. Basic lightweight ones are great. We have limited spares if required on request (quarantined before and after event).
  • Small lightweight back pack to pop your waterproofs in.

Wear suitable clothing, eg no jeans. If you think it is appropriate for you, you could include a drink, snack, hat and gloves. The kit requirement may change slightly due to weather checks closer to the event. The Walk Leaders will carry outdoor 1st aid kits, group shelters and other emergency equipment.

ABOUT RECONNECTION WALKS

Come and join us for a fully guided low level walk and support CancerCare. As we emerge from the tumultuous events and our confinement in 2020, we are pleased to host this inclusive, relaxed and healthy COVID-19 secure event . We want to walk and talk together in nature.

Spend the morning in beautiful countryside. You will reconnect with friends, family and colleagues combining exercise in a natural environment and discover or even re-discover stunning views right on our doorstep. Places we have been restricted from visiting or too busy to visit. Away from digital devices with uninterrupted time to physically reconnect, chat, think, discuss and reflect.

This is a fully guided walk. As well as your nominal fee to attend this Reconnection Walk, we would love it if you were able to make an additional donation to CancerCare. We suggest £5 per person.

ABOUT CANCERCARE

CancerCare has been providing free professional therapy to people dealing with the effects of cancer and bereavement for more than 35 years.

The charity has centres in Lancaster, Kendal and Barrow and offers a wide variety of services including one-to-one counselling, complementary therapy and creative activity groups.

The service is open to family, friends and carers of people with a cancer diagnosis and if someone feels they need support, and meets the criteria, they can refer themselves without first consulting a clinician.

CancerCare has a dedicated service for children and young people with specialist counsellors trained in play therapy. It also runs a weekly peer support group in Lancaster called Re-Fresh which is run by youth workers and acts as a safe space for young people to meet, do activities and have fun with others in similar situations
