The Ennerdale Energiser ‘Duathlon’, Paddleboard – Hike, The Lake District.

Take on the Ennerdale Energiser – a fully guided hike and stand up paddleboard (SUP) event which involves boarding the full length of Ennerdale Water followed by a hike up three Lakeland peaks. This hike involves climbing a total ascent of 1023m (3356ft), the equivalent climbing higher than Scafell Pike, the highest peak in England!

We base ourselves in Ennerdale, one of the more remote Cumbrian valleys. Ennerdale has a distinctive character of its own with a sense of tranquillity, ruggedness, wildness, a feeling more of Scotland or Scandinavia. It is stunning!

There will be two groups of between 5 and 13 participants, with a total of up to 26 participants. One group starts the SUP first followed by the hike with the other group doing it the other way around.

Ennerdale, Adventure Trails

Overall event difficulty

This is certainly a challenge, however it is also manageable by most who have a reasonable level of fitness and are able to undertake some training.

Stand up Paddleboarding

The stand up paddleboarding section will involve a full tour of Ennerdale Water completing the full length of the Lake. From the water, the views over surrounding mountain are incredible. You also get to appreciate the extensive rewilding programmes undertaken in Ennerdale over the past 20 years. Full instruction is given at the start so you do not need any prior boarding experience. All equipment is provided. Once out on the water it is fully guided and supported by qualified and experienced instructors.

Hike Route

The hike route is 8.5 miles, 13.5km and takes in three Lakeland Peaks; Red Pike, Starling Dodd and Great Borne. All these three peaks are listed ‘Wainwrights’ giving a total ascent to climb of 1023m, 3356ft. Whilst on the high sections of the hike we get to look over Wild Ennerdale, plus over to the lovely Buttermere and Crummock Water. The last few km follow the shoreline of Ennerdale Water. As with the SUP section, the hike is fully guided and led by qualified and experienced Mountain Leaders.
